Yes, two days. Only two days.
Bet you’re wondering how that happened right? I know I take some short vacations, but I was most definitely not supposed to be there for only two days.
Let me get into how all of this transpired and I’m sorry it took two months to write this, a girl is busy.
Friday, February 14th
So, a massive snowstorm happened the Wednesday and the Thursday. We were supposed to fly at 11pm on Thursday, but that turned into 2am on Friday.
With that change, we would miss our 90min layover in Port of Spain to Grenada, and ended up with a 15 hour layover in Port of Spain. Losing the full day in Grenada.
Fucking hell.
Let me tell you about our day in Trinidad. I’ve been here before, so at least I know where to go and have friends that live there.
First things first, download TTRideShare. This is the ride hailing app on the island and it works very well to get you to wherever you need to go.

Because I knew my boyfriend and I would be annoyed and tired, plus it was 30+ weather outside, I decided to book an AirBnB close to Piarco airport. With having the AirBnB booked, we had a place to rest, shower and drop our bags to go gallivant.
The hosts name is Jason and he was WONDERFUL to us. He let us check in early and get some rest. The unit was quite big and very clean.
The cost for the night was $105.20, so $52.60 per person. VERY worth it. If you ever have a lengthy layover in Port of Spain, I highly recommend booking with him. The link to the AirBnB can be found here.

We did choose to take a quick nap and then go into downtown Port of Spain. I wanted to take my boyfriend to a favourite restaurant of mine when I was there in 2020 – El Pecos.
The food was really good, just like last time. Then we went over to Frankie’s bar on the Avenue and met up with my friend Andrew. I’ll be honest, I drank WAYYY too many White Oak Coconut Rums at this bar. I vaguely remember getting into the TT RideShare and heading back to the AirBnB to take another nap before we went back to Piarco airport to continue onto Grenada.
Again, the AirBnB idea was one of the better decisions I have made during my trips. Nap. Shower. Airport.

I think our flight left POS at about 10pm and we landed quickly in Grenada. Our lovely AirBnB host (Kenisha) picked us up from the airport, took us to get some food on Wall Street, and then straight to the AirBnB.
This AirBnB was perfect for what we needed, in a good area, good location and clean. Good air conditioning as well, important.
I had paid for FOUR nights at this AirBnB, because we were supposed to land early morning Friday and I didn’t want to wait until check in. Obviously, that ended up being unnecessary since we got there super late Friday. But no point in crying over split milk. We were finally in Grenada and we got there safe.
The cost of the AirBnB for the four nights was $316.78, so $158.39 per person. If you head to Grenada and want an awesome host with a clean and well located AirBnB, click here.

Because of those naps we were able to take in Trinidad, we had plenty of energy to still go hit up a club! Friday Night? Valentine’s Day? Hell yeah.
We went to a place called The Junction and to the bar across from there named The Brewery.
The music at the Junction was REALLY good, but the people were our age and barely dancing? Very odd. Then we walk over to the Brewery and everyone is dancing, but the patrons were young enough to be our kids.
Still had a good time. If there’s rum, we will have a good time regardless. Our AirBnB host Kenisha even came to pick us up from the club at 2am.

Saturday, February 15th
Today we went to the famous Grand Anse Beach.
This made me so happy, I have been wanting to see this beach for a long time and it didn’t disappoint. We got two beach chairs and a lovely gentleman on the beach was bringing us the food and drinks we needed. Literal perfection. We also got super lucky because the entire day said 90% rain and we got NONE.
Also want to say, Grand Anse gave me the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen on a beach. Holy moly.

While we hung out at the beach all day, a lot of my Twitter followers told me I had to hit up this popular restaurant named Umbrellas Beach Bar.
This place was super busy but we got in under 15 minutes or so. The food was good, nothing too great or bad. Just good. I did love their nutmeg ice cream and sweet apple juice. Delicious.

Late in the evening we didn’t really have any plans but on the street our AirBnB was located on, there was a little outdoor bar. It just had people drinking, playing dominoes, music and even the NBA All-Star Weekend showing on TV. This was perfect for us. We made friends with some locals and stood outside drinking and yelling at the dunk competition. Loved it.

Sunday, February 16th
So, for Valentine’s Day I had actually booked my boyfriend and I a nice sunset cruise in Grenada that we ended up missing because of the stupid weather.
Luckily, I had another back up for the two of us. Spa time!
We woke up and went over to Spice Island Resort for their Sunday brunch/lunch.
We didn’t know it was ‘all-you-can-eat’ on Sundays there. Hell yeah. For $75.00 USD per person, the food was great and so were the servers. Also, the resort is beautiful. For like $1400 a night for a room, I would expect it to be nice though. Just saying.
Now, for this place being so fancy pants, they sure fucked up pretty bad with us and the spa.
Months before I had emailed with their spa coordinator and booked myself a massage and my boyfriend a facial. We finished lunch and walked over to their spa only to find out the person who does facials had gone home for the day. What the hell is that?? I was so mad.
We had lunch here and planned the day around going to this damn spa appointment. For a place that is THIS expensive, you’d expect a certain level of service. We did not get that service. I told them if my boyfriend wasn’t getting the facial, I wasn’t getting the massage either. We left the resort, pissed.

We went back to the AirBnB and relaxed for a bit trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our day.
One of my boyfriends childhood friends stopped by and it was nice to hang with him at our local bar for a couple of hours.
After he left, we went to dinner at the Dodgy Dock.
Many people had recommended this place and I have to say, it was super pricy for the food just being OK. I would say it was just OK. I love eating and I did not love this.

We flew back to Toronto on Family Day – Monday, February 17th.
Usually I don’t have much to say about flying home (thank God) because I rarely have any issues. We didn’t have any issues, but unfortunately something pretty major did happen this day.
When we were landing in Toronto we had crazy wind coming down into Pearson and I told my boyfriend I could feel it was going to be a rough landing. It was. But we were a huge plane so thankfully we landed and everything was good for us. We disembarked and 10 minutes after leaving our plane, I began getting messages from people asking if I was OK? That was odd.
Found out that a few minutes after we landed in the crazy wind, a plane coming from Minneapolis had crashed upside down at Pearson. Mere minutes after we landed. Thankfully, all those people ended up surviving the crash but this news weighed on me for a little while. Always so grateful to return home safely.
My boyfriend and I really liked Grenada, even with all the crazy shenanigans happening with the weather and the ‘OK’ food experiences. To be honest, the best meal we had in Grenada was this pigtail and noodles that Kenisha took us to a street vendor outside once we landed. I was really sad that I didn’t get to have oil down – none of the restaurants or vendors were selling that dish. Real shame. Apparently it is a dish that takes a lot of work to make and it is typically only made on one day of the week. Obviously not the two days we were there.
We will 100000% return to Grenada, it is too beautiful and the locals are too lovely to not go back over and over again.
Make sure you download their local ridesharing app named Haylup. When Kenisha wasn’t able to drive us around, we used this app and had pretty good luck with it.
I know I usually write a whole budget breakdown, but this trip just didn’t have much to write about. But I want you to be able to see it anyways, so here is my Excel sheet breakdown of the costs between the unexpected Trinidad layover etc:

Will return to Grenada again, and MAKE sure I get some oil down and spend my entire time on Grand Anse Beach.
