Yes, it has been almost two months. I get it. This took forever, again.
I would apologize, but that would mean this won’t happen in the future, which would be a lie.
What is crazier is all I did was eat on this trip, so this recap is literally me telling you about all the food I had.
But, yay, food?
Sunday, June 28th
We had a morning flight from Pearson to Charlottetown and ALMOST got lucky with one of those ‘give up your seat for X amount of money to fly later‘ situations. They were offering $2000 per person! However, sadly, we were not chosen for that. Maybe next time.
So off to Charlottetown we went at the correct time.
Landed, everything was good. We thought we would use the PEI ‘Uber’ app named Kari but the app was taking forever so a taxi had to do.
The taxi took us to our accommodation for the next four days – The Rodd Charlottetown.
This hotel definitely felt like it was once a wealthy person’s hone and all the rooms were eventually converted into a hotel. The location was superb, the staff were great but the hotel was just OK to me. Nothing wrong, but nothing particularly exceptional. It does have a pool in the basement, for those of you that might be interested in using that.
I was hungry, as always, so we walked over to this place I saw online named Leonhard’s to have brunch.
There was a bit of a line, but I think we waited maybe 20 minutes for seats. The hot chocolate was great, my boyfriend’s french toast was good but the highlight was my lobster eggs benedict. I thoroughly enjoyed it and almost didn’t even have it because they were out of hollandaise. BUT THAT DIDN’T STOP ME!
And I’m glad it didn’t stop me. Delicious.
After the hearty meal we walked around and did some souvenir shopping. I am a sucker for souvenirs, and I need you all to know that is ridiculous on my behalf, since again, I was traveling with only a personal item.
Following the food and shopping, we went back to the hotel for a couple of hours to watch some of the World Cup action.
Our dinner reservations were at Claddagh Oyster House. I know this is a very popular place in Charlottetown, so had to check it out ourselves. Do make a reservation before coming to the city as this place is very busy and not very big.
We had the oysters as a starter along with some jerk spiced crab legs. Listen, come prepared to get dirty – but it’s so so so so worth it!!! My boyfriend and I loved the crab legs, you will too.
For our mains we got a ribeye as well as a side named colcannon. This was my first time trying this version of mashed potatoes, I liked it.
For dessert we chose the creme brulee, I’d say that was just OK. But, you have to get those crab legs. Write it down. Remember it.
Walked off the dinner for a bit as the sun set. The center of Charlottetown isn’t particularly big so we got to enjoy quite a bit of it.
Got lucky and somehow ended up at a little league baseball game cheering for random people’s kids. Also, beware of mosquitos if you head near the forestry, they do not play around.
Monday, June 29th
Todays lunch plans were to head to the Water Prince Corner Shop and Lobster Pound.
This place has MANY seafood options, but the highlight is their lobster roll. It was scrumptious.
Yes, then we shopped some more because clearly PEI has many things I needed to bring home for myself and my friends as gifts.
During our lengthy walk we ended up at Founders Food Hall.
My boyfriend and I loved this place. They had lots of choices for food, dessert, drinks and they had TVs with the World Cup games on. What else could you possibly need?
Following the tough day of eating, walking and drinking – we went back to the hotel to take a nap. Clearly, my age is catching up with me but I love vacation naps. Also, the nap was needed because we planned on being up much later this evening for a 10pm World Cup match.
There was no plan for which bar to go to but we ended up at Hunters Ale House.
This place was so much fun! We made some friends and got very drunk. I particularly liked the prices of the liquor in this establishment, as a Toronto person? Yeah, this was a deal for me.
We did eat some food: mussels in ‘Hunter’s Famous Curry Sauce’ (delicious), pierogies (yummy) and finished it off with a carrot cheesecake (out of this world good). An awesome time was had at this bar, would definitely go back.
Tuesday, June 30th
Didn’t wake up hungover, success. But still needed some breakfast and we came upon Casa Mia.
This place had the cutest patio and their food portions were huge.
My boyfriend got the omelet meal and I got these massive pancakes with peaches on them and a side of bacon. Heavy breakfast. Very good.
You bet – then we did more walking and shopping. I’m unstoppable.
Ended up for a couple hours back at Founders to watch more World Cup action, but then the feeds suddenly cut for some reason and we left back to the hotel room.
Our final dinner ended up being at The Cork and Cast.
They had a happy hour I think from 6pm to 9pm that we tried to take advantage of. The mule drink was really well made.
For food we had the charcuterie board, some steamed mussels and the haddock tacos. This was more than enough food for the two of us, especially the damn tacos? I swear each one had the entire fish portion in each. Loved them.
And I guess I lied, because we still ended up getting dessert. The cinnamon sponge cake was to die for. Make sure you order that if you have a sweet tooth.
I know you’re wondering where the heck the budget breakdown is. This trip was a little different in that regard since I booked us a package deal on Expedia, and this included the flight and hotel stay.
You can see my little Excel breakdown above. I thought we got a pretty good deal per person, especially since it was the Canada Day long weekend for a flight and hotel package. Furthermore, not needing to use ANY transit or taxis (except to and from the airport) and being able to walk everywhere definitely saves some money too.
I liked Charlottetown; it’s quaint and quiet. If that is your thing, you’d like it too.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THOSE JERK SPICED CRAB LEGS THOUGH!
See you on the next adventure.
