2 Days in Singapore Recap

Ah yes, arrival in one of the most expensive places on the planet. Nothing changed with Singapore when it comes to that.

Friday, January 3rd

We got from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore really fast, and again, more e-gates! Yay for Canadian passports and e-gates. I know people love getting their passports stamped up, but if it is between stamps or super duper fast e-gates? I don’t care if my passport stays blank. I loveeee e-gates.

After such a fancy hotel in Kuala Lumpur, we sure had something different with our hotel in Singapore. The room was still better than the hostel room I stayed in last time I was here, but still, very small.

We stayed at the Ibis Budget Singapore Clarke Quay.

I got us the cheaper ‘no window’ room which was fine. But seeing that it had no real shower, that basically you had to bathe over the toilet was hilarious. Budgeted a little too crazy here, my bad.

I didn’t mind the hotel, the location was fantastic, rooftop pool and it was clean. My issue with the room was there was like four vents for air conditioning blowing right at the bed. Now it was +37 Celcius outside, so I realize we need the cooling, but it couldn’t be aimed elsewhere? I knew this was going to fuck me up. I just knew it.

We went for a little walk in the area and got into some random mall and ate some delicious ramen. Never a bad time for ramen, and Singapore has crazy range on their food options just like KL does. Just, way more expensive. I grabbed myself a little sweet treat as well, a cream cheese pancake. Yum.

We relaxed for a bit but obviously, went back out. Our last Friday night in Asia, we going out!!

Singapore isn’t a big place, so you will definitely end up by the water enjoying the skyscrapers and views of Marina Bay Sands.

We didn’t have any real plans tonight, but as we walked by this building we heard some Drake playing. I said oh, TORONTO IN HERE? Naturally, had to go see whats up.

An escalator lead us up to Baia.

This place is like a luxury lounge/restaurant with a beautiful view. We had some drinks and appetizers. Expensive. Very expensive. Going to Singapore after Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia was like going from Prague to Switzerland. The difference in how much things cost was NUTS.

Whatever, YOLO.

The DJ’s were killing it inside this lounge. We walked in and only ONE person was inside dancing. Ha. Not on our watch. We made the dancefloor into a three-person-party. Made some friends, enjoyed the awesome music and got a whole bunch of free shots of whatever alcohol.

One of the most fun nights on this trip.

Saturday, January 4th

Woke up today siiiiiiiiiick as a dog. Oh my goodness.

When I tell you, on our last freaking day, we didn’t go outside until 2pm. That is how sick I was. Coughing and sneezing. I knew being in that heat + in and out of air conditioning would catch up to me. And it did. FML.

Still forced myself to go outside so I could see the incredible Gardens by the Bay, and so my boyfriend could experience them as well.

I mean, it is hard to explain how beautiful these gardens are. You could spend the whole day here seeing everything and also learning about the plants on the property. We sure spent a lot of time reading the history and facts about all the foliage.

Do try to make time and walk around the Gardens. So much to see.

There was a presentation about climate change, and a photo of Toronto was in it! Doomsday, but make it Canadian. Yes.

At about 830pm there is this neat light show with the trees as well, I think overall the Gardens look way cooler at night too. You must visit.

I felt like absolute hell flying back to Canada. I guess it is better to get sick on the last day of vacation instead of on the first day. But still. That long flight home was awful. I actually didn’t get my full hearing back for almost a week because of the pressure on the flights. This was WITH having my Earplanes on the flights as well. Didn’t fix anything.

Get your money up and visit Singapore. Maybe a day or two will do you just fine – even a long layover because their airport alone is worth the visit. My favourite part of Singapore might actually be the airport.

Hope you enjoyed all five of these recaps. Sorry they took so long to write.
