A Recap of 2022

Now, THIS was a fun year.

Although in 2021 I managed to escape three times to Banff, Aruba and Jamaica – I promise you 2021 doesn’t have SHIT on what I got upto in 2022.

As 2021 was coming to an end I told myself I would make sure I escaped as often as I could in 2022, because WHO KNOWS if another lockdown was coming, or some new crazy illness, like, I don’t know, monkeypox?

I managed to visit ELEVEN countries this year, nine of them being first time visits for me.

Fucking awesome. I worked hard and I am the luckiest person ever for having this privilege.

Feeling really blessed at the outcome of my 2022 looking back at it.

Most Popular Destinations for 2023

It is nice to be making this list again.

For the past two years I feel like the top destinations were: grocery store, Tim Horton’s and bed.

Wanted to give an idea of where my blog people want to go for this upcoming year. The list is based off the itinerary requests I get and I’m happy to see some newbies on the list! I love planning trips to all kinds of different places.

However, some stay pretty frequent and popular – yes, Miami.

#5: Costa Rica (anywhere)

Between the pandemic and a lot of people being able to work remotely, seems Costa Rica has become really really REALLY popular for travelers.

Can’t say that any specific city has been more popular or less popular than others. Overall, folks just really want to go to Costa Rica. I can’t blame them.

I took a trip to San Jose and Jaco back in May and it is a BEAUTIFUL country. It is super relaxed, super green and the cost of things is just right. I don’t see the demand for going to this wonderful country dying down anytime soon.

#4: Lisbon, Portugal

Listen.

I totally understand the popularity of this as well.

Another destination I was fortunate to fly to in 2022 was Lisbon, Portugal.

Between people wanting to visit because of the AMAZING flight deals to this city or even moving there, Lisbon is a very popular destination.

Also, some folks want to get here as a base destination and then move on to traveling to other parts of Europe. When I went back in June, I used the $300 flight I managed to score to Lisbon to also take a quickie trip over to Nice and Monaco.

Compared to other parts of Europe, I found Lisbon to be pretty well priced and also it has SO much to do. People have already begun asking me for Portugal vacations well into 2023, so I know this will be popular once again.

#3: Miami, Florida

I’m still not sure why people like going here so much.

Are you all rich? It must be that you’re all rich. This place was TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE for me, for not such a great place to visit.

I made my first trip ever to Miami in April of 2022 and I was totally underwhelmed.

Aside from one really good brunch spot and a strip club, I didn’t like Miami at all.

But – this remains a really really popular destination that I do itineraries for. It is so popular that prior to visiting myself, I already had a very good idea of where I wanted to stay in the city. That is how many itineraries for Miami I do on a regular basis.

Maybe it is the short/somewhat cheap flights that make Miami a simple destination to go to for warmth and debauchery. Not sure. Folks love it very much, so here it is on my list, again.

#2: Zanzibar, Tanzania

This is a new addition to the list!

I feel like 2022 was the year of HABIBI COME TO ZANZIBAR – or whatever that TikTok says.

(no, not the place on Yonge St)

There have been many requests to go to this beautiful destination and I’ve had a range of solo trips, group tips and baecations for it. All kinds.

I haven’t been lucky enough to go there yet, but I hope to soon.

There was a Zanzibar group trip itinerary I posted back in November for $2000.00 per person, you can check that out here. If there are more decently-priced flights there, I think it will just rise in popularity even more. Looks gorgeous and everyone I know that went absolutely loved it. Bucket list destination!

#1: Mexico (anywhere)

I bet you’re not even that surprised.

Pandemic or no pandemic, Mexico is the spot!

I’ve lost track of how many itineraries I did for people to go from Toronto to – Cancun, Tulum, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta etc. It isn’t even one specific city in Mexico, people are visiting everywhere. High demand for Mexico trips.

Personally, I haven’t been to Mexico since like 2018, but I get the draw.

It isn’t far. The prices are great. Food is good. People are nice. Beaches.

What is there NOT to like?

The trips I’ve planned include all ranges of ages, types of trips from weekends to three and four month trips. It was also interesting that many are choosing to not do the whole all-inclusive thing but instead opt for renting an AirBnB and being more immersed with the local population. I like that.

Don’t foresee Mexico leaving this list for a WHILE.

Cancun Beach

The best part of writing this piece annually is that I have no idea what is going to be popular in the near future. I just do itineraries and see what people prefer and what is being requested more and more. Also giving a slight shout out to Guatemala, this was requested more that a couple of times for 2023 as well.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to a WHOLE NEW batch of awesome places to tell you about next year. Hopefully you choose me to help you out with the trips!
